Learn MoreA U.S.-based global retailer wanted an audit management process to meet regulatory requirements across 15 countries, with its stores assessed annually on 14 areas from food safety to anti-money laundering. The company’s existing governance, risk and compliance (GRC) platform lacked mobile and offline capabilities. Auditors had to manually capture data on-site on paper, and then enter it into a system at another location. For a more efficient audit process, the company needed a digital solution that would enable auditors to work offline on mobile devices in the absence of wireless connectivity. The retailer approached Cognizant for a solution that blends mobile and offline capabilities.
Instead of changing platforms, Cognizant developed a proof of concept that leveraged the retailer’s existing platform, building a small, thin client that would sync with that platform and enable auditors to work on mobile devices as well as offline.
We built and deployed the solution in five languages across 15 countries over a period of nine months. Cognizant also worked with infrastructure teams to address hardware needs and deploy the mobile application in countries with insufficient infrastructure.
The mobile security application, while also eliminating duplication of effort, significantly reduces errors through its real-time summary and review feature. It nearly halves the average time it takes an auditor to conduct an assessment. According to the company’s internal reporting, this equates to nearly 22,000 hours and approximately $2 million in cost savings each year. The improved efficiency of assessments helps the retailer mitigate local risks while meeting mandatory compliance requirements.
