DAME: products that help solve the “period plastic problem” to reduce carbon footprint

UK-based DAME has become the world’s first carbon-positive period brand after receiving a Carbon Neutral Plus Product certification from Carbon Footprint—the organization that verifies and certifies a company’s carbon status.

Known for creating the world’s first reusable tampon applicator, the company achieved carbon-positive status after an eight-month process that involved measuring the exact amount of carbon the brand generated and investing in a carbon-offsetting project to remove twice that amount from the atmosphere.

"A big driver for creating DAME was to tackle the ‘period plastic problem’ – that’s why we created our reusable tampon applicator. But we also know that plastic is a small part of a much bigger environmental problem," DAME co-founder Alec Mills said.

"Our mission is to be a truly sustainable business, and we can't achieve this without addressing our carbon impact. We hope that by talking openly about our carbon footprint, and sharing the journey we’re on to tackle it, we’ll inspire other businesses and individuals to do the same."
