Experience Design

What is experience design?

Experience design (XD)—also called user experience design (UXD)—refers to the practice of designing products and services with the end user’s experience, engagement and satisfaction top of mind. It typically extends human-computer interaction (HCI) design by addressing all aspects of a product or service as it is perceived by users.

What are the business benefits of experience design?

XD can deliver several business benefits to an organization. Among them:

  • Satisfaction. Effective XD is a major contributor to creating the right solution for the right audience, which boosts not only customer satisfaction with the solution but also loyalty to the brand.
  • Segmentation. With the consumer research that is typically part of the XD process, a company can gain a better understanding of its audience and subsequently segment, and better serve, that audience.
  • Sales. A customized XD can help reduce customer bounce rates and increase cross-selling, upselling and overall sales.
