Challenge

A large American general insurer wanted to improve its visibility into the behavioral patterns of its insured member community. It wanted to transform its business from being product-centric to customer-centric to predict and reduce customer churn.

Solution

Cognizant used Turf platform of Xurmo, which is based on Artificial Intelligence and machine learning for analytics and reporting, along with MongoDB for big data storage. More than 50 years of data for more than 60 million members and 2000+ active plans was captured and consumed. We deployed an ‘Analytics Factory’ to create analytics models for customer segmentation to further help in the churn prediction.

Global Credit Card Company Creates a Big Data Lake as a Centralized Business Intelligence and Decision Enablement Ecosystem

Challenge

A global credit card company grappled with inefficiencies in utilizing its data assets effectively. There were delays in making the relevant data available to the business community due to data federation across multiple data warehouses and data marts. It had a highly heterogeneous ecosystem with high volume data spread across 48 disparate technologies/platforms. It needed a consolidated platform for enabling multiple downstream analytics activities as well as offloading heavy ETL workloads onto the Hadoop environment.

Solution

Cognizant designed & developed a common metadata driven framework to source data into Enterprise Data Lake (EDL) on Hadoop. Nearly 4000 feeds from 70 system of records (SORs) have been consolidated to build a secure single source of truth using efficient space management techniques. 

Impact

This was a flagship program for the client and resulted in a number of business impacting use cases:

  • 20-25% increase in fraud prediction accuracy
  • The time for executing risk simulation models has significantly come down from 30 days to 1 day

A Leading Managed Healthcare Company Aims To Reduce Fraud

Challenge

A leading healthcare company wanted to build an algorithm using text mining or other tools to calibrate provider submissions that will help them to better measure provider effectiveness. It was looking for a solution that will help in early detection of fraud due to mapping to standard codes and measuring the provider efficiency factor.

Solution

Cognizant used MarkLogic and Hadoop (HDP) to provide effective solution. It built eight efficient business rules using MarkLogic text parsing capability that helped perform entity match and predicted the most possible ICD10/CPT code. The solution also helped in churn and overpayments predictions as well as provided customer segmentation and behavioral association.

Challenges

A leading American utilities company was looking for a perform “Liquidity Stress Test” at a timely fashion with large sets of parameters as there was a lack of business driven stress model configuration and execution. There was also inability to accommodate increasing data volume due to lack of scalable architecture. The challenge was to migrate existing MS excel liquidity model into RDBM objects and scale the model for processing terabytes of data in near-real time.

Solution

Cognizant designed and developed Hadoop storage and spark data processing backend. Scala based reactive stress model configuration and execution engine (extensive usage of Scala future and actor) was implemented along with a new generation HTML5 single page application to deliver first-class user experience. Cognizant built a reactive UI for data insight with in-memory data processing for a highly customizable data flow.

Cognizant designed and implemented a flexible open source architecture by building a ‘Digital Lake’ in Hadoop file systems for data assimilation and ingestion from disparate sources. Hadoop/NOSQL (HBase) based ETL solutions was implemented. Real-time APIs on HBase was built to serve enriched merchant information (e.g. logo, merchant category, address, phone number, website details, etc.) to customers for the credit card transactions through different channels like web/online, mobile, tablet and customer support application. Cognizant built end-to-end solutions to ingest, parse and analyze customer digital interaction audit log data using niche big data technologies. Its existing platform, provided by a third-party vendor, houses critical consumer data that needed to be brought in-house to reduce dependency on third-party vendor and provide better control to the consumer and considerable cost savings on YOY basis.

Solution

Cognizant designed and developed a next-generation analytics platform, built to integrate with disparate data sources. It has been designed to scale horizontally by adding additional nodes to the AWS cluster on cloud. Real-time insights are provided by leveraging in-memory processing engine such as Spark, and the data is loaded in real time into Redshift. The marketing campaigns are run in real time.

  • NGAP platform will be available in-house which will enable business, data scientist to get actionable insights in near-real time and with an added benefit of significant cost savings because of eliminating the dependency on third party vendor

Challenges

A leading technology company had an existing traditions Enterprise Data Warehouse to support all geographies. The exponentially rising data volume and mixed workload impacted user querying triggered move to Hadoop. 

Solution

Cognizant designed and developed Hadoop for landing area and granular data archive. Historical data from Teradata was dispatched and then incrementally loaded. Batch processing, transformation and aggregation on Hadoop via Hive QL was performed. Workflow management was done using Oozle. Load ready aggregates loaded to Teradata via file to database interfaces for end user reporting. Processing steps implemented via Shell/Python scripts called through Autosys.

    Challenges

    A leading multinational consumer goods company wanted to build a next generation analytics platform on consumer’s big data ecosystem, which will enable the business and data scientist to get better insights into data. Its existing platform, provided by a third-party vendor, houses critical consumer data that needed to be brought in-house to reduce dependency on third-party vendor and provide better control to the consumer and considerable cost savings on YOY basis.

    Solution

    Cognizant designed and developed a next-generation analytics platform, built to integrate with disparate data sources. It has been designed to scale horizontally by adding additional nodes to the AWS cluster on cloud. Real-time insights are provided by leveraging in-memory processing engine such as Spark, and the data is loaded in real time into Redshift. The marketing campaigns are run in real time.

    Challenges

    A leading technology company had an existing traditions Enterprise Data Warehouse to support all geographies. The exponentially rising data volume and mixed workload impacted user querying triggered move to Hadoop. 

    Solution

    Cognizant designed and developed Hadoop for landing area and granular data archive. Historical data from Teradata was dispatched and then incrementally loaded. Batch processing, transformation and aggregation on Hadoop via Hive QL was performed. Workflow management was done using Oozle. Load ready aggregates loaded to Teradata via file to database interfaces for end user reporting. Processing steps implemented via Shell/Python scripts called through Autosys.

    • Improved SLA adherence for batch as well as mixed workload scenarios
    • Improved de-coupled processing steps of extract and ingest process in Hadoop. Maintainability, source de-coupling and ability to restart and late running catchup for batches that run 24*7
