With deep repositories, historical designs and records of changes locked in silos across the organization, designers spent an excessive amount of time searching for, gaining access to and updating historical designs. This increased costs and reduced productivity, and it left the company unable to protect its intellectual property. The manufacturer turned to Cognizant's consumer goods technology experts for help.
As a first step, Cognizant partnered with the client’s management team to implement a collaborative, internal digital product lifecycle management (PLM) platform, giving designers across the world a view into each other’s work. As part of the project, we evaluated the interoperability of different 3D visualizers, asset generators and CAD/CAM/CAE software.
Implementing the Windchill PLM software package provides a single source to connect these programs. It also integrates with Oracle’s agile-based platform, promoting digital mockup capabilities and reducing designers’ dependency on physical models.
Infrastructure and application upgrades optimize the manufacturer’s efforts to ensure performance enhancement, while performance assurance is achieved through solution validation.
Reducing data management and transaction times up to 30%, the new solution integrates formerly disparate repositories of designers and software for greater efficiency, cost reduction and accelerate product time to market.
The digitized PLM platform increases the efficiency and productivity of more than 2,000 users and provides state-of-the art upgrades to over 1,500 machines. Digital models pave the way for seamless content exchange throughout each product’s lifecycle. The platform helps promote quick product turnover and reduce overall costs. Stakeholders across the world can now quickly find necessary information using the digitized knowledge repository. The new solution also drives innovation while reducing duplicate efforts across a complex IT infrastructure.
