Life Sciences Giant Transforms Supply Chain Management

The Challenge

One of the world’s leading life sciences companies had acquired several companies over the years to expand its U.S. market presence. Although the company used SAP as its main enterprise resource planning (ERP) software for supply chain, manufacturing and financial operations, a newly acquired entity utilized the JD Edwards (JDE) sales, distribution, warehousing and financial modules. The company decided to consolidate these multiple disparate systems into a single JDE system, while providing for future scalability and growth.

Our Approach

The Cognizant engagement involved the following enterprise application services:

  • Implementing and rolling out JDE to distribution centers and manufacturing facilities
  • Migrating myriad applications, such as SAP (finance), MAPICS (manufacturing), Logpro (warehouse management), to JDE
  • Developing several custom programs to accommodate the complex interfaces between multiple systems like JD Edwards, SAP and MapeX
  • Validating the functional configuration of JDE E1 V9.0 for upgrade
  • Developing functional test cases for the integrations, interfaces and upgrade, and ensuring test cases were executed in a controlled environment per U.S. Food and Drug Administration rules
  • Conducting performance, load, availability and regression testing
Consolidating Multiple Systems Into One

Cognizant helped the life sciences company build manufacturing forecasts based on product demand, while also creating complex reports for the API usage and FG consumption.
