Hong Kong’s second-largest provider of retirement solutions manages 1.4 million policies covering 40 percent of the working population. The company supports its operations with two in-house developed applications running in a mainframe Z/VSE environment: a distribution channel administration and compensation system, and a retirement and pension plans administration system.
But these decades-old mainframe applications were nearly obsolete. With business demands increasing and time to market becoming more critical to business success, the company’s old technology strained daily operations, time to market, risks and costs.
Cognizant proposed re-platforming the company’s two mainframe applications. Our solution included a hybrid, distributed approach using different methods for multiple solution areas: batch migration, batch optimization, data migration, infrastructure migration, online rewrite and report rewrite. We also assumed end-to-end responsibilities for program management, planning and solution architecting, capacity planning, project governance, quality assurance (QA), user acceptance testing (UAT) support, infrastructure testing support and consulting, test automation, end-user training, implementation and warranty support.
By transforming its legacy mainframe applications to a cost-effective distributed environment using Micro Focus technologies, the company improves its operational efficiency and performance while reducing transaction processing time. This not only enhances automation, productivity and scalability but also lowers maintenance costs.
