The client wanted to automate business processes across the enterprise and across existing boundaries. This called for the integration of existing systems. Rebuilding from scratch was an unattractive option. Customer information locked within stovepipe systems had value, especially when viewed as a whole. The client had to integrate key systems with vendors and customers. The key objectives of the Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) included:

• Improving the quality of care by facilitating the timely exchange of electronic data and integrating various applications within the organization
• Consolidating data coming through various channels and sending data to the specific vendors
• Achieving cost savings by reducing the labor costs associated with administrative processes
• Meeting the regulatory requirements associated with HIPAA

Cognizant had been working with the client through the implementation of Facets. Cognizant was also responsible for designing a reporting system to integrate with Facets. This had involved extensive work on data from Sybase databases.

The client chose Cognizant to assist in the SeeBeyond implementation. Cognizant’s experience with the database structure, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) implementation, and HIPAA compliance made it possible to efficiently accept, process, and distribute data to different application systems, as required. Cognizant also developed a user interface and customized preprocessing applications.
