Mergers, Acquisitions and Deregulations in the communication industry are leading to tumultuous changes and intensified competition. These in turn are driving the need for consolidated operational support systems and customer base. The client, a network service Provider, recently completed its merger with a multinational Communications service provider. The client had embarked on re-engineering the critical support systems between the two networks in order to improve the operational efficiencies of the global network that resulted due to the merger. There was also a pressing need to evolve support systems to meet new business requirements and objectives.
The client wanted a solution partner who could accelerate the re-engineering process and at the same time provide cost efficiencies. Given Cognizant’s expertise in the OSS space and its onsite - offshore model, the client engaged Cognizant as its re-engineering partner. The re-engineering effort was categorized under the following four modules:
- To develop an integrated enterprise data model that represented a comprehensive set of information relating to both Backbone Circuits and Customer Circuits.
- Perform data integration and system adaptation for Network Element Store (NEST).
- To enhance the functionality of the Carrier Management Tool which included Role based access control, carrier service availability and contract management.
- Required to extend the functionality of the Portal in order to enable users to search and view all information via the GUI.
