Dateline Cognizant - In the news & on the move

Senior Member of Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh chooses Cognizant for its successful deployment of organization-wide Quality processes and process improvement measures

Teaneck, NJ-March 10, 2000-Cognizant Technology Solutions Corporation, an e-business and application management specialist, has been awarded the "Best of Best Practices Award" by Quality Assurance of India (QAI) and the Carnegie Mellon Center for Information Systems Engineering. The Award was presented at the SEPG 2000 Conference held in Bangalore, India.

Mr. Pankaj Jalote, Head of Computer Science at IIT Kanpur, screened the 60 nominations in four categories, shortlisted four from each and forwarded them to Mark C. Paulk, Senior Member of Software Engineering Process Management at Carnegie Mellon University, and one of the authors of the software Capability Maturity Model (CMM). Judging the Award, Paulk made the following comments:

"My choice for the 'Best of the Best' Award in the category of Best Practices is "Audit Plan to Process Improvement-An Automated Journey" by the quality professionals from Cognizant Technology Solutions. This paper has four attributes to be commended: use of quantitative data to demonstrate the impact of process improvement actions; emphasis on timely feedback; effective use of software tools to reduce errors, decrease cycle time and automate processes; and the substantive way in which the Software Quality Assurance (SQA) evolves as an organization matures."

"This project utilized all our skills," said Emani Sarathy, Head of Cognizant's Process and Quality Management Board. "We always thought it would be possible to integrate software internal audit planning, audit processes, audit follow-up, analysis of findings and process improvement suggestions, and quantitatively monitor the activities and effectiveness of Quality Reviewers' activities. We therefore developed an integrated system and effectively implemented it. This has resulted in recognition from delegates at the SEPG conference and from around the world of which we are very proud."
